Duh, red eye!

The day before the New Year’s eve, my friends and I had a small party at A’s house. Automatically, our children got to have an instant play date, much to their excitement. It has been quite sometime since they all got together, so it was a delightful reunion for them!
Photobucket
A happy chaos ensued when each of their Titas handed them gifts. It was like Christmas all over again for them! These kids are more or less a year apart in ages… Leah is 6, Nikki 5, Martin & Caity 4 and little Adie who’s almost 2 y/o.  No quarrels that night!

Look! Caity and Nikki got identical dresses!
Aside from the dress, she also got matching cap & shawl, angry birds’ purse, smurf toy, and puzzle. Thank you pretty titas for the gifts! Caity and lil’ bro were surely pleased.

@ home…  She’s wearing a floral dress from C&A, red tights from long, long time ago and her overused glitter flats from H&M. Gray teddy is a gift from M’s office.

Not such a happy look, but anywayz, Happy New Year everyone!!!  All the best for this year, 2012!

Caity’s grandparents came in the afternoon of the 24th, and we only prepared Christmas Eve appetizers as they plan to have dinner in their home, after the gifts have been opened.

She is all ready to attack the food!

After the meal, Bába (grandma) huddled both kids @ little bro’s room, while M brought in the Christmas from the balcony where we hid it out from the children’s reach. Děda (grandpa) and I helped placed all the gifts ’round the tree.  Once everything was ready, the light in the room was turned off leaving the Christmas lights blinking in the dark.  Then M rang the bell, signalling that *Ježíšek (baby Jesus) came and left gifts for everyone. Czech children are made to believe that the gift-giver is baby Jesus, not Santa Claus.

The kids ran to the living room and tadannnn!  They were in awe with all the gifts they saw, especially Caity.  “Vánoce!!!” (Christmas!)  She excitedly shouted.

With little bro, who was too occupied with eating the chocolate he got from the tree, oblivious to the surprises awaiting for him to unwrap.

We made one of Caity’s wishes come true.  She got a scooter!  And she also got another bike, this time with pedals! Weeee! Lots of ride-on toys for her this year.

It was hard to make the kids go to bed that night, coz all they wanted was to play with their new toys.  Caity slept with the scooter by her bedside.

The next day, Christmas, we had a brunch at Hotel Hoffmeister Restaurant with the grandparents…

Only borrow, Mama...”.  she begged. Of course, the toy had to stay.

Finally, she got hungry and eat.

We went home after we’re all stuffed with the buffet style brunch, and the kids all worn out from their messed up nap schedules. Later at night, we attended the Christmas Mass and Caity was too excited to say hello and thank you to baby Jesus for all the gifts she got. Thank you Lord, for the gifts!

Whew! All in all, it was a wonderful Christmas and holidays spent with family and friends, that is why Kids’ Style is posting late. Sorry! The kids were happy with what they received, so M and I declared our Christmas shopping a success.

On Caity’s 4th birthday, she got a big doll any little girl would fancy. But one look at it and she shoved the gift away, refusing to accept it. Weee! The poor thing is hidden in the cabinet waiting for the chance to play with Caity.  I’ve noticed tough that she likes playing with her small dolls. So its not that she doesn’t like dolls at all.  I guess big isn’t her type and she is being choosy. Lately she’s even asking me to buy her Moxie dolls, specifically the Magic Hair Colour Streak Studio Dolls coz she wants to color their hair too. Oh well…

When we went out earlier, she asked if she can take her baby with us.  She just looked irresistibly cute carrying the rocker… like a mini Mama!

We left it in the car later as we’ve got too many things to mind already. We told her, baby doll would feel cold outside. :P

waiting for trdlo

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas… la, la, la, la!  Lots of Christmas markets all over Prague can be found, and the smell of heavenly baked scents always find its way to our nostrils. Caity always requests for trdlo or trdelnik, a crusty pastry rolled in sugar with cinnamon and nuts. Yum!

Sweet love. :) Hubby and Caity were waiting for me and Adie (lil’ bro) at our building entrance, opening their arms wide for Adie; as we got nearer, the two kids ran to each other and hugged.

December 11th, 2011Kids’ Style # 5 – In white

Last Monday, Caity and her classmates were asked to go to school dressed in white. It was St. Nicholas Day and the Czechs celebrate this occasion with the character of St. Nicholas going around (with him are the Devil and Angel), asking kids if they’ve been good or bad. Good kids get rewards/treats and the bad kids will be placed in the Devil’s sack or get a charcoal or potatoes. I’ve heard that parents use this event to discipline their kids to be always nice, or else the Devil will punish them. I don’t know if its effective. (:

So here is Caity  when she got home from school (just ignore lil’ bro in the picture):

white dress

She’s wearing a silk dress with polka dots (not so clear) all over it, and tied with a ribbon at the back paired with a pretty pair of silver glitter ballet flats.

We went to a bazaar at Žižkov area, where the famous Television Tower (with babies crawling) is. Caity was able to buy some puzzles!  Nothing for lil’ bro though!

Then we strolled around the square in front of the church of the Sacred Heart where there was a Christmas Market. Lots of gift items, baked goodies, handcrafted christmas decors and stuff, sausages, jams, and other food were on sale. The smell of Christmas is truly in the air!

I almost bought the Smurfette stuffed toy hanging behind Caity coz she wanted it.  Fortunately, when I told her we’ll choose something different, she calmly replied “Okay“. Hehehe  Was I relieved? You bet I was! I was anticipating more coaxing from her, but she wasn’t bent on getting the toy.

Czech homes are usually decked with Christmas decors a week or for some even the day before the 24th of December, but malls and even small stores have already put up their Christmas trees ad trimmings early, probably to prompt people to start Christmas shopping .

The following photos were taken after we attended the Sunday Mass (the first Sunday of Advent). We went to a mall  for lunch in an Italian buffet then planned to go home. But Caity protested, she didn’t want to go home yet. So we lounged on the couch where there was this big Christmas tree standing in front. Hard not to miss it. The kids enjoyed poking and looking at the big tree.

It’s scary to bring kids to the malls these days where there are plenty of toys sold in every corner.  Isn’t it?  Caity already made several attempts to make us buy some toys that caught her eye.  Fortunately, she’s not the type who’d beg and cry till she gets what she wants.  So we told her she’d get it on Christmas.  She asked for three things; a bunny in a cage, a pink poodle (which she calls Pink Ori coz her grandma’s dog is a poodle named Ori) and scooter.  I told her she can choose only one and she chose the bunny.  After awhile though, she said to buy the pink dog for Adie instead. Hahaha Smart move girl! Pink is for girls Caity! I told her.  She paused and negotiated some more… she said that the pink dog will be sad if we don’t buy it coz it likes her. “Pink Ori and the rabbit, okay?” she said… nice try, nice try. We.have.to.think.about.it.yet. (: I have several gift options for her that are useful, not toys which will lose their fancy after sometime and become candidates for mess in the house.

It was spring when we went to see the Ice Age Giants Exhibit at Výstaviště Holešovice. The exhibition showcased prehistoric animals from Ice Age in life size form. We told Caity that Ellie, the female mammoth from the movie Ice Age would be there and she was excited to have a close encounter with her.   Only a few minutes inside the exhibit though, Caity heard the background animal sounds and got scared.  She refused to walk around the exhibit hall so her dad and I had to take turns in carrying her. That kinda ruined the fun for her.

Anyway, the kids got to see cavebear, sloth, armadillo, rhinoceros, and a lot more which included a fierce tiger eating its blood-soaked prey.  It was pretty scary coz it looked almost real!

As I have posted previously, we went last week to the Toy Museum in Prague Castle to see the exhibit of vintage toy cars, trains, dolls and a lot more, which included a collection of Barbie celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Here’s what Caity wore on that day,matchy-matchy with autumn foliage:

Top – OshKosh
Knitted cardigan – Next
Leopard print leggings – C&A
Maryjanes Shoes – Besport bought in Finland

The walk up to the Prague Castle was tiring but Caity was all gungho and uber excited to see the toys that she didn’t mind climbing the 208 steps!
